Well, this is overdue! It's been a full year since the last Photo Page, and as our kids grow, we find-- as I suspect many parents do-- that it's more difficult to get "that shot" that we want. Over the past 12 months, a lot of the images I've shot of Kieran and Thalia, now Ten and Seven (thus the title) ended up on the virtual cutting room floor. Such is life.

Oh, in this shot, taken at Federal Hall in Lower Manhattan in late November 2006, Kieran has just reached ten and Thalia is six and a half (thus the "mostly"). You might recognize the other gentleman in the photo as well.
Last Update: 22 Aug 2007

And so we go all the way back to Halloween 2006 for our little witch-- well, actually, that's just the costume that Thalia Elizabeth chose.

Kieran, blowing out the candles at his "public" 10th (!) Birthday Party, held this year at a local bowling alley.

And here is the cake we had for the "private" party. Kieran's photo still appears! (It's his school photo from 5th Grade.)

Blowing out the second set of candles...

A quiet moment at the paternal grandparents' in New Jersey. There was a third cake for Kieran here over Thanksgiving...

...and meanwhile Thalia Elizabeth shares a silly moment with her Uncle Stephen. He also had a birthday on Thanksgiving 2006, but we'll mercifully leave out the number.

Kieran striking a, uh, characteristic pose during the First Lego League Tournament, held at the University of Rochester. His team the "Nanoblasters" won the coveted "Most Creative Presentation" award-- they beat out dozens of other teams by putting Nanotechnology "on trial".

Thalia Elizabeth looking over the program before her first violin recital, January 2007.

Kieran and some ice floes on the Niagara River, just ahead of the "Point of No Return" from which anything will go over The Falls; April 2007.

Thalia rejoicing over her gift of nail polish at her "public" 7th (!) birthday party, May 2007, at our local recreation center which is a converted school. (Mommy looks somewhat less enthused about this.)

The Birthday Girl-- wearing the aforementioned nail polish!-- poses along a windswept Lake Ontario on her actual "day", May 13. Which was also Mother's Day! And it was also the birthday of her great-grandfather, on her father's father's side.

Looks like she got a few presents!

The next day, at Rochester's world famous Lilac Festival, Thalia samples the scent of one of the reasons why it's held here and why we call Rochester the "Flower City."

Memorial Day weekend was back in New Jersey. Here is my dad helping to remember those for whom we set aside time on that important occasion. This ceremony took place at the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial in the town in which my parents live.

And, later that same day, here is Thalia Elizabeth in her first parade! With her grandmother and grandfather on the American Legion float.

A somewhat startled Kieran on the steps of Boro Hall during the parade. He opted out of the ride on the float but it looks like he did a lot better with the free candy given out...

Joining the Broadway Cast of "Spamalot"-- well, via the display in front of the theatre, anyway... here is Kieran almost literally chewing the scenery. "Spamalot" was Kieran's first Broadway show, with many thanks to his Cousin Lillian, and he loved it. (Lillian took Thalia to see "Beauty and the Beast" last year as well.)

A solo! Thalia's third (or was it the fourth, counting in front of the school assembly?) public appearance with the violin she is learning via the Suzuki method. June, 2007. Yes, it's available light, so the focus isn't as good as it should be. Where are those spotlights?

Technically, this image could go in the California page because it's, at least in theory, part of that vacation trip. We flew through Detroit for the 2007 visit out West, and this shot is special for me. I have traveled through the tunnel that connects the two main concourses of the McNamara Terminal at the Detroit International Airport, and I have always been touched by the fascinated reaction of children to the incredible light and sound show that is put on in the tunnel. This time, I was able to show both of my own children. Here Kieran (with his back to the camera) contemplates. It's an available light exposure of one-tenth of a second, pretty much the maximum for which I can hold the camera steady, if I'm lucky. I think I was this time.

And we'll finish this page with two informal portraits: First of Kieran for his fifth grade "memories" CD given to all fifth graders as they move up to Middle School (already? sniffle) and then Thalia during a ride on the Arcade and Attica Railroad. We still have to get to California, though, and that's next!
